Camp Massasoit, the Springfield College-run summer youth camp, has received important re-accreditation from the American Camp Association (ACA), the only national accrediting body for all camps.
“The accreditation provides evidence to our families that we are focused on the safety, health, and mitigation of risk for our staff and campers,” said Angela Veatch, Camp Massasoit co-director. “The extensive amount of standards that we are required to meet is a testament to our commitment of ensuring the best possible experience for our campers.”
There are only five other camps within a 20-mile radius of Camp Massasoit that are accredited by the ACA. Camp Massasoit stands out from those other camps because of the types of activities that are offered. Camp Massasoit is the only camp offering swimming, boating, archery, an environmental block, as well as a ropes course experience.
ACA re-accreditation occurs every five years. The primary purpose of the ACA Accreditation Program is to educate camp owners and directors in the administration of key aspects of camp operation, particularly those related to program quality and the health and safety of campers and staff. In addition, the standards establish guidelines for needed policies, procedures, and practices. Springfield College is responsible for the ongoing implementation of these policies.
Camp Massasoit provides summer programs featuring development of skillsets and fun-filled activities with educational themes for children ages 5-13. The camp is located down the road from the Springfield College campus at East Campus on the shores of Watershops Pond.
